Alright Mela
Alright Mela is an electro-oriental trio born from the collaboration of Markus and Cheb Xavi (both known from ‘Markus and Shahzad’), and Moroccan Gnawa singer and gembri player Jaouad El Garouge (Al Qasar, Acid Arab, Salif Keita, Nuru Kane feat. Carlos Santana).
With Jaouad El Garouge they found a new direction: combining the raw spirit of 70s tape music with deep electronic North African grooves. The result is a sound where analogue grit, hypnotic rhythms, and soulful vocals meet.
Their music reflects the meaning of their name – “all is well” in Maltese – and echoes the island’s unique mix of Arab and European culture. Just like Malta, their music thrives on hybridity: a crossroad of continents, traditions, and sonic eras. With El Garouge’s conscious lyrics on ecology, migration, and life in megacities, Alright Mela’s songs balance reflection with the urge to dance.
Since their formation in 2023, Alright Mela has carved out a distinct place in the global fusion scene. With performances at Boom Festival, Sziget Festival and Oslo Mela Festival, they have already proven to be ready for bigger audiences. On stage, Alright Mela deliver an ultra-effective live performance: heavy bass-driven electronics collide with the earthy pulse of the gembri and the fire of the electric oud. The result is a trance-like communion where borders blur, fists rise, and music becomes a celebration of connection and revolt.
